Philosophy and Experience:
The mission of Over the Moon Doula is to support parents during their postpartum journey and beyond. My practice focuses on supporting you through care, resources, education and empowerment by adding "tools" to your "parent toolbox" so that you are set up for success throughout your parenting journey.
During your postpartum experience, my goal is to make sure that you are well taken care of by making sure you are being nourished with healthy food, properly hydrated, making sure there is space for you and your family to rest/shower/practice self-care and of course bond with baby. The postpartum period is a very vulnerable and sacred time. Being with your baby, holding/wearing your baby and feeding your baby are all ways to establish healthy bonding and to help regulate the biorhythms of your little one. This is a special time which deserves the specialized care of a postpartum doula.
Postpartum nutrition is something that I am very passionate about in my practice. After birth, women can experience nutritional deficiencies if they are not being fed a nutrient-dense diet during their "fourth trimester" and may have a delayed or difficult healing process after birth. My dietary philosophy supports the consumption of warm meals and beverages which focus on organic whole foods, healthy fats and warmth. As your postpartum doula, I can prepare home cooked meals which are specifically designed to heal the gut and replenish overall health. The recipes that I utilize in my practice also focus on including food-based galactogogues (a comination of the Greek terms "galact" - meaning milk, and "ogogue" - meaning leading to or promoting) to help support lactation.
My journey as a postpartum doula began in 2014 and since then I have served close to 40 families (and growing!). Prior to that, I gained 10 years of experience in the child care field as a mother's helper, nanny and preschool teacher. Originally, I grew up in the South Bay until I moved to San Francisco in 2008 to earn my BA in Psychology with an emphasis in Infant/Child Development from San Francisco State University. Currently residing in Oakland and firmly planted in the East Bay.
